The photos of Tamaki’s courtside look quickly spread across social media, with fans drawing an immediate connection to her daughter’s own reputation for turning Grand Slam appearances into fashion events. One fan reacted online, joking that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, while another asked whether Naomi’s fashion sense was directly influenced by her mother.
It wasn’t the first time Tamaki has drawn attention at a major tournament this year. During Wimbledon, she was photographed in a brown sunhat, sunglasses and white gloves while watching Naomi’s fourth-round match against Aryna Sabalenka, drawing similarly enthusiastic reactions from fans online.
Tamaki, who is originally from Nemuro, Hokkaido, Japan, met Naomi’s father, Haitian-American Leonard François, in Japan in the 1990s before the family relocated to the United States, where Naomi began training in tennis at age three.
